Yarn count converter (Ne, Nm, Tex, Denier)

Convert a yarn count between Ne, Nm, Tex, dtex and Denier. Add the number of plies to see the resultant count of plied yarn, such as 20/2.

Estimates only. These results are for planning and guidance. Please re-check against your own samples and machine settings before ordering or production.

How the conversion works

Ne and Nm are indirect counts: a higher number means a finer yarn. Tex, dtex and Denier are direct counts: a higher number means a heavier yarn. The basic relations are Tex = 590.5 / Ne, Nm = 1000 / Tex, Denier = 9 x Tex and dtex = 10 x Tex.

For plied yarn, the resultant count is close to the single count divided by the number of plies (for Ne and Nm) or multiplied by it (for Tex and Denier). Twisting makes the real plied yarn slightly heavier, usually by a few percent, so treat the plied figures as approximate.
